Aerial is 16-years-old and lives in Denver, Colorado. She’s on the swim team at her high school, loves listening to music and is a good student. She has been infected with HIV since she was born. Aerial has been coming to Camp Kindle for four years, and last summer she was a Counselor in Training. She has two other sisters, Kira and Stephanie.

Aerial does not tell anyone about her HIV status because she says that people treat her differently once they find out about it. She says that doctor’s visits aren’t the real problem with HIV, it’s the stigma surrounding the disease…

Q: Why do you love Camp Kindle?
A: I love Camp Kindle because they treat you like family.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 year?
A: Hopefully being a culinary chef!

Q: What is the hardest thing about being HIV positive?
A: Probably remembering that I have it. Sometimes I think I don’t. I do everything the same as other kids and I just forget.

Q: Is there anything good that has come from being HIV positive?
A: Camp Kindle! I get to share experiences and make friends with people who understand.
